Raw Rysiek Ledwon (formally known as Rick then Richard)

Well, let's see... i was incarnated into a most peculiar
spot this time 'round...on the shores of lake Athabasca
in the Province of Saskatchewan.

Both of my parents, who came from Poland, were
musicians. Dad played trombone in a big band and Mom
was a child prodigy singing and playing the harmonica.
They were hard working immigrants.

I was kind of the black sheep in the family, never
really feeling like i belonged, always wanting to do
some thing unusual, crazy, different. I've always had
eclectic interests; drawing and painting are a
couple of them. Throughout grade school my artistic
abilities were definitely noticed and this provided me
with a great deal of freedom, as well as untold
benefits.

Later in life when i graduated from high school, which
for the most part i found tedious, i enrolled in the
fine arts program at the U of A. This proved to be a
bad move as the academic approach to art left me cold.
I needed hands on training. After the first year, i
figured fuck it, i'm going traveling, and off i went to
Europe. The following year i decided to try out the
graphic design program at Edmonton's Grant MacEwan
College. There my technical skills in drawing and
design work matured, though my disdain for the class
room continued.

In my graduating year, i obtained a job with Air
Canada. Three years with Air Casual, and countless trips
to exotic lands, made me realize that i wanted to live
the life of an artist, abroad. So on a cold day in
February 1984, in a fit of inspired insanity, i quite my
day job, sold most everything i owned, and headed for
the tropical paradise of Jah-maica.

The next few years were great. After about 6 months in
Jamaica, i was called to central Mexico where i
worked as a photographic assistant to a wonderful man
and aerial photographer named John Frost. These were
fun times. I learned a lot and got to see most of
Mexico in the process. John introduced me to Georg and
Phyllis Rauch and a long standing friendship began. The
Rauchs showed me a life-style that in the past i
could only of dreamt of. Georg rekindled my desire to
draw and paint. He taught me the silkscreen process
and most graciously shared his studio and home with
me. I am greatly indebted to these fine people.
Several years in Mexico left it's mark on me and it is
very apparent in the life i live now.

Today, I continue to paint, build strawbale houses;
reminiscent of the south, raise a daughter tend our
organic gardens, teach people about the living/raw
food diet, practice Qi Gong, as well as a few more
things.
I am available for commissioned works.

A philosophy that i have is quite universal. I feel
that all people are naturally creative, and if we
explore creative outlets we are connected with the
Creator. In doing so, the planet becomes a much
healthier and happier place to live.

Love Raw
