Rah's work as a professional visual artist has contributed greatly to the distinctive beauty, quality, and designs of his strawbale buildings. He is mindful of aesthetics, the environment and function with his use of shapes, colours, and reclaimed materials; such as salvaged wood, reused doors and windows.

Rah has been involved in strawbale construction for nine years since his first strawbale experience in Peterborough, Ontario in 1993 with Ottawa architect and strawbale builder, Linda Chapman.

Since that time he has designed and built ten strawbale buildings ranging from a strawbale cottage in Ireland, circular meditation centre in Northern Italy (Damanhur), a 40x60 foot martial arts dojo in central BC, as well as seven buildings at his retreat centre, Ashinah.
